Parenting Consults

Parenting consults are for any parent or caregiver who needs support in managing their child’s challenging behaviors and/or emotions. During the consult, one or both parents (or any primary caregiver) meet with a clinician to discuss concerns and develop a plan to address problem areas and increase family functioning. The clinician will provide psychoeducation about the child’s developmental needs and offer evidence-based strategies to support parents as they navigate their family’s needs.

Parenting consults are brief (typically 2 to 4 sessions) and target specific goals. These consultations are ideal for parents who are unsure of where to start in seeking help or whose child is unable to get in to see a mental health professional due to long waitlists in the community. In some cases, the clinician may recommend additional treatment and/or assessment.

Parenting consults can help with:

  • Disruptive behaviors (tantrums, acting out)

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Picky eating

  • Potty training

  • Attention and learning difficulties

  • Managing screen time

  • Sibling rivalry
