Claire Russell, Ph.D. (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, young adults and families to promote mental health and resilience.  Areas of intervention focus on treatment of depression or other mood concerns, anxiety, (including generalized anxiety, specific phobias, OCD, social anxiety, separation anxiety, school avoidance, panic), behavior challenges, ADHD, grief, trauma, and coping with chronic illnesses.  Therapy may also be more broadly focused on adjusting and coping with challenging life circumstances such as illness in the family, family conflict or change, social challenges, or identity development, including support for LGBTQ youth. Dr. Russell will collaborate with the patient and family to identify individualized therapy goals and create an evidence-based treatment plan to address unique needs. Dr. Russell primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a focus on building a safe and supportive therapeutic alliance to promote best outcomes. 

Dr. Russell completed her doctoral training in the Counseling Psychology program at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. She completed her internship (2013) and fellowship (2014) training in Pediatric Psychology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) in Columbus, Ohio where she worked until September 2021. At NCH, Dr. Russell worked with children and families impacted by medical and mental health challenges. While Dr. Russell has worked with children with variety of concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, behavior concerns, school refusal, pain, and social challenges, she has specialized in families coping with cancer (parent, sibling or child) and other chronic illnesses along with grief in children.
